MÄHRISCH-OSTRAU 1923

A tournament was played in Mährisch-Ostrau from 1-18 vii 1923. The event was sponsored by the Witkowitzer Eisenwerke. So a contract of Emanuel Lasker could be afforded. All players stayed in Hotel Royal. The tournament was opened and played in Witkowitz, a suburb of Ostrava.

Lasker won the tournament gloriously. Réti followed by one point. The other prizes went to Grünfeld, Selezniev, Tartakower, Euwe, Tarrasch and Bogoljubow. Spielmann and Rubinstein won no prizes. Spielmann complained about his lack of success in the King’s Gambit.
